Dear Lara and Gloria,
I want to start off by thanking both of you for joining our very productive session on Saturday. We discussed numerous topics and the ideas were truly flowing.
Here is what we specifically identified as topics of interest and how we wanted to build and transform our ideas into reality:
- Haverford School Solar Initiative ~ Incorporate into Physics “light” unit/ other parts of curriculum. “Goal is to educate the boys so that we make the students aware here and so that we can learn about a sustainable world. My hope is that once they know about this they will have more opportunity to continue their work here.” Start a Renewable Energy Project between Schools. Introducing the concept of renewable energy to a science curriculum will show the other humanistic and social side to renewable energy. Links to Videos on Site and PBS 2hour Documentary will be provided later.
- Skype Video Meeting (Connection with Night School) ~ Start small by introducing the students of each school. Try and get to know each other better by sending each other “Cultural Introduction” videos (Mrs. Brown History Class do Videos). Next, start a small project: “Something they would like to change in each of their schools”. Then do a possible Skype Call if wifi permits. My contact should be one of the children in the Night Schools and Aakash Piplani.
- Raising Funds ~ Accumulated Clothing from Drives should be converted into money and sent as donation. Raising funds for supporting a student for a year of school? Raising funds for supporting a night school depending on cost? Ideas on what platform (web site) to use to raise these funds?
- Trip to Tilonia, Rajasthan ~ August 4th into the 5th. Open and Flexible in extending trip. Learn more about Solar Program. Meet Bunker Ji at Tilonia.
- Blog ~ Making Headway with this personal project.
- (Mr. Brady, Mr. Poolman) Bunker Ji Speaker Series Possibility ~ Form to be filled out for Bunker Ji’s visit. Price point and structure will be specified on the form. Contact Bunker Ji to check availability.
- (Major Goal) Exxon Mobil STEM Renewable Energy Day, Speaker Series Combination ~ Our ultimate idea and goal is to bring a Renewable Energy Day conference to the Haverford School. Still Just a thought. “I was at an Energy Day recently and they had speakers from Harvard, Cambridge, MIT and all big Ivy Leagues talking about the new advances in solar and renewable energy. And then I spoke about barefoot and it was a nice departure to see the social side of renewable energy” ~ Lara. Hosting a Renewable Energy Day and having a speaker (either Lara or Bunker Ji and professors) would be golden. Great for the enrichment of our students.
Actions Items, Yeshwin to follow up with Lara to
- send me form for inviting Bunker Ji as a speaker
- help connect me with Barefoot Communication manager
- introduce me to Krista from Exxon
- send PBS 2hour Documentary Link
- help get me in touch with the lady who organized Exxon’s Renewable Energy Day
- see if she can come as a speaker
Additional Action Items

A special thank you to everyone who is sticking with me. Right now the future looks especially brighter after some more clarity and the progress we are making in preparing for the years to come. We are close, so Let’s keep working and make these ideas a reality!
