One of those experiences and lessons that I will never forget in my lifetime.

It had been around 2 months since I sent my initial email to the Head of Middle School, Dean of Students, and Director of Service Learning and I had not received a reply.

It taught me that change is hard. It taught me that if I wanted that change, it was up to me to go out and make it happen. And, that no one would do it for me. It taught me discipline. And it taught me to persist respectfully and to always maintain a determination to achieve my goals.

I was confused. For weeks on end I was trying to figure out why no one was just sending any sort of acknowledgment to my message. It was then that I decided that I would never take ‘no’ or ‘nothing’ for an answer. From then on I decided that I would never rest until I achieved what I sought.

I learned to send follow up emails throughout those 2 months. When that failed, I decided that I would go and talk with them face to face.

And just like that, the ball started rolling; idea after idea.

In one more email, I summed up what we discussed in person, my experience with Barefoot College, and I also included a Picasa slideshow to visually paint the picture. 2 weeks later, I received a response from the Dean of Students who expressed her interest and the support she would provide.  The Director of Service Learning also responded and said how excited she was to create a connection between The Haverford School and The Barefoot College. She also introduced me to the Global Services Director.

If you as an individual are challenged, then learn to learn so you can overcome.

Look Forward — learn to act:act to learn

Challenged? Then learn
