Yeshwin Sankuratri, a sophomore at Amherst College, is planning on majoring in Neuroscience and pursuing the medical profession. This past spring, Yeshwin became aware of the devastating waves of COVID-19 ravaging India as many of his relatives were affected and resolved to do his part to help. As a result, Yeshwin has since continued his long-standing partnership with Barefoot College International and is working to assist our COVID-19 relief program, Women’s Wellness project, and coordinate two international fundraising campaigns. Yeshwin’s aim is to raise a total of $10,000 between the two campaigns. Yeshwin has been working with Barefoot College International on various projects since middle school. Introduced to the organization in 4th grade through a TED talk, Yeshwin began his service work in 7th grade by visiting the Main Campus in Rajasthan, India and quickly formed a partnership between Barefoot College International’s Digital Community School and his 8th Grade Class at The Haverford School. This partnership between two starkly contrasting classrooms, situated at two different ends of the world, resulted in a fruitful cultural exchange lasting 4 years, including clothing and supplies fundraisers, trading of cultural videos, handmade coloring books, and live-video conferencing. Outside of his academic and service-related passions, Yeshwin is an avid squash player who is a nationally ranked junior player and also a member of his College Varsity Squash team. Additionally, he has been a member of two touring A Cappella groups since middle school and is now involved in other different clubs and activities on campus.
